Individual and Couples Counseling

In the beginning of individual or couples counseling the initial session is considered the psychotherapy intake. During the initial session I take this time learn more about the presenting problem, current mental status, risk assessment, and questions pertaining to each person biopsychosocial assessment. The initial session is also a good time to further explore any questions, the process of therapy, treatment planning, and policies. The second session begins with the development of your treatment plan pertaining to your goals, strategies and interventions that will be used throughout therapy, and establish a frequency of treatment. The development of the treatment plan is an important process to determine which direction therapy will go in. Even though the treatment plan is considered an area of focus this is not the only thing I tend to work on. For each individual and couple, I always like to start very present focus concerning how you been week by week. Contingent upon the therapy focus I will provide homework assignments that is geared towards treatment success.

Sports Counseling

As a former Division 1 track and field athlete for Louisiana State University (LSU), I have taken a personal interest in providing counseling to athletes. I witnessed first-hand the importance of mental health and the impact it has on an athlete’s overall performance within competition and during his/her daily life. During my time at LSU, I have obtained great success by earning many accolades and collegiate awards but most importantly I learned various life skills such as sportsmanship, hard work, and dedication. I also learned how to deal with disappointment and what the true definition of resilience is. To sharpen my knowledge and skills I have completed graduate level courses at John F. Kennedy University in Kinesiology and Performance Enhancement. With my personal experience as a former D1 athlete along with my educational background, providing counseling to athletes, current and former, is a passion of mine.

My Approach

I like to take an integrative therapeutic approach to treatment which involves identifying the therapeutic orientations best suited to a client’s presenting problem. By tailoring therapy to an individual, integrative therapy hope to deliver the most significant effects. The goal of integrative therapy is to align therapeutic techniques that are proven to be effective in treatment for a specific need.
